To be eligible for a Shelby Township Library card you must live or be a taxpayer in Shelby Township. To apply for a library card, proof of residency is required. A valid Michigan's Driver's license/Michigan State ID or two forms of acceptable ID with a current address.

 

 

For most items there is no limit! Take as many books and DVDs as you can carry!
There are a few exceptions:

Music CDs (10)

Audiobooks (6)

Non-fiction Children's books on the same subject (3)

Magazines of the same title (3)


3 week materials include:

7 day materials include:
Non-Feature DVDs & Videos
Juvenile's Feature DVDs ( $1 )
Circulating Encyclopedias

14 day materials include:
New Adult Fiction

All DVDs and audiobooks are listed in the Library's online catalog, just like books. There is not a printed list.

As long as you have a valid library card, you can be put on a waiting list for items that are checked out. You can do it yourself through the Library Catalog or ask a Librarian to reserve (hold) the item for you.

To request an item that is either checked out or at another library you may place a "hold". When the item arrives at the Shelby Township Library you will be notified by email or by an automated phone message. If you are requesting an item that is currently on the Shelby Township Library's shelves and you intend to pick it up shortly, call the Library at 586-739-7414 and we will hold it for you at the Check-Out desk!

The Library has a fax machine. Faxes are $1.00 per page to send or receive. The Library fax machine does have a "scan to pdf" feature for creating pdf files for attaching to emails.  The "scan to pdf" service is $1.00 per page. The Library does have a typewriter which is located in the study area at the back of the Library.

The Library provides wireless Internet access anywhere in the building; please make sure your laptop is properly configured.

 

The Library accepts donations throughout the year of all types of print materials (including magazines) with the exception of encyclopedias and text books.  Also accepted are CDs, audio books, videos and DVDs.  Donations may be brought to the Check-Out Desk.  A receipt can be supplied for tax purposes.

The Library does have DVD recordings of the Shelby Township Board Meetings available for checkout.

 

 

The Library computers have Microsoft Office 2010 for public use.  Paper for the printer is $ .10 a sheet.

 

 

A basic selection of tax forms is available in print or reproducible format at the Library. The Library also has the internet access information for state and federal forms

(www.irs.gov; www.michigan.gov/treasury).

 

 

Shelby Township Library is a member of the Suburban Library Cooperative (SLC). All libraries in the Cooperative offer borrowing privileges to Shelby Township residents.

 

 

Librarians are trained to assist you with recreational reading choices. Call or stop by the Adult or Juvenile Reference Desks and our Adult Reference and Children’s Librarians will be happy to assist you. You may also consult Novelist or Books & Authors databases to help guide you in making good reading choices. Note: The Online Catalog also has recommended reading lists on the main search page. 

 

 

All of the library computers print to a print release station located at the Adult Reference Desk.  Printed pages are $.10 per page.

 

 

Various community groups offer tax preparation assistance. Once we have received contact information we will have it available at the Reference Desk.

 

 

Many subscription research sources are available for use from home. Call the Library for specific information on sources which can be accessed from home and sources which must be accessed from the library.

 

Reference staff at the Library will proctor exams provided you are Shelby Township Library cardholder in good standing. Students are required to fill out and have their institution fill out the Proctoring Form. Online exams cannot be proctored at the Library. Once the proctoring form is complete, contact the library to schedule the Conference room for the exam.

 

 

Yes.  Adult volunteers are welcome to help the Friends of Shelby Township Library with the Bookstore and other activities.  Contact the Library for information on the Friends.  There are ocasional and limitted opportunites for teens to volunteer please refer to the Teen Volunteer form for more details.
